Gas Price War

Higher gas prices in the summer is not unusual, but in one eastern Kentucky town a gas price war has prices lower than we've seen in quite awhile!

The Chevron and the Appco in West Liberty have been battling all day to see who will have the lowest price.

While WYMT was there Wednesday afternoon, the price of unleaded dropped from two twenty-seven to two twenty-six and some say the competition could make prices even lower.

The Appco was busy with dozens of customers today, all of them eager to fill-up.

Gas prices dropped well below the national average of two eighty eight.

The prices were low enough to nearly cause a traffic jam on Prestonsburg Street in West Liberty but most customers were not complaining.

The Chevron, which is only about a block away, also had some unusually low prices.

With both gas stations competing to be the cheapest, gas prices have been quite unpredictable.

Both stations have been working hard to keep up with the demand.

Some people told me they drove more than a half hour to fill up with gas, but would gladly keep taking that drive for the lower prices.

WE ARE GLAD TO SEE GAS PRICES DROP MAYBE THEY WILL KEEP GOING DOWN OR STAY LOW. I DROVE 2 TIMES TODAY TO GET GAS 1 TIME IN OUR TRUCK AND THE OTHER TIME IN THE CAR AND FILLED UP A JUG. THERE IS NO REASON FOR GAS TO BE SO HIGH HERE. AND ITS TIME TO TRY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THANKS WEST LIBERTY FOR GIVEN PEOPLE A BRAKE.
