Witness In Vote-Buying Case Found Shot To Death

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky man who served as a witness in a federal vote-buying probe was found shot to death in his home, police said Wednesday.

Carl Bartley, 58, of Jeffersonville, Ky., died of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, Kentucky State Police spokesman Ralph Lockard said. Although police were considering his death a homicide, no arrest had been made late Wednesday.

State police from the Morehead post found Bartley's body in his home Tuesday afternoon when family members reported him missing.

Lockard and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ken Taylor said there was no indication the death was related to Lockard's role in the prosecution of businessman Charles Hart, who was accused of jury tampering and vote buying during a Bath County probe.
