Safety Checkpoint In Lexington Tonight

Tonight police will be holding a safety checkpoint in downtown Lexington to make sure you're following the law.

The checkpoint will be set up from 9:30 tonight until three tomorrow morning. It will be on West High Street near Jefferson.

Officers will be checking for a current driver's license, seat belt usage, vehicle registration and drivers under the influence.

Apparently, the majority of you don't get it. By announcing the presence of police and checkpoints, it DETERS crime from happening. Anytime you can deter something bad from happening, it might save lives and free up the remaining police to actually go after those causing problems. Some people who orginally thought about going out to drink and drive home in the area where the checkpoint is might just stay home. If they didn't announce this, quite a few people would say it is harrasment. Cops can't win but my guess is if someone had problems, the cops are the first ones they would call.

These are announced on purpose by the Lex. PD. The check points are set up in the location announced, but they also set up "check points" in locations surrounding the one announced. They are much smarter than you give them credit being. So what if it generates revenue as some of you state, it gets drunks off the road, catches people who are driving without insurance etc. Keep up the good work blue!

They'll still catch a bunch of people that haven't seen the paper, but it is kinda pointless to announce it.

So correct Donna. Its a waste to let everyone know about ahead of time. Think its good to have them. Of course now they are called Saftey Checks and not Road Blocks or whatever they used to call them. Judges do not like to hear that term Road Block. Would much rather see someone coming down the road with a Cig in their hand than a beer or some other form of booze.

These aren't about people breaking the law; they are about generating revenue for LFUCG. Conditioning people for martial law will occur as a side effect.

Free American, just when was this "once upon a time" you are dreaming about? Tyranny is in your mind.
