Residents surprise man stealing gun, items from Corbin Home

Corbin, Ky. - A 28-year old Corbin man is in jail charged with stealing. The arrest came last night after owners of a residence discovered a man in their home taking a number of items including a gun.

The Corbin Police Department reports Eric Shawn Lewis was apprehended not far from the residence on Willowbrook Avenue in Corbin where the owners told them they surprised the man who was in their home taking property belonging to them including the weapon valued at more than $300 dollars.

The residents called 911 and fled to a neighbor's house until police arrived. Sgt. David Maiden, Cpl. Shannon Jones and Pfc. Chad Gregory responded to the call and found the robber had fled the home. The officers began a search and located the suspect, Lewis, walking along a street just west of the residence.

Police say an investigation and information they obtained led to the arrest of Lewis and recovery of the stolen items. Lewis has been charged with burglary and theft.
