Somerset Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash

Somerset, Ky. - A 57-year old Somerset man was killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcylce crash two miles east of the city on Grundy Road, according to Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood.

Authorities have identified the victim as Thomas G. Wilburn of Cherry Grove Road in Somerset. Officials say Wilburn was driving his 2004 Harley Davidson southbound shortly before 2 pm Sunday when he lost control, veered off the road and overturned.

Wilburn was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner's Office. Sheriff's units were assisted at the scene of the accident by Somerset Police and Pulaski County Fire and Emergency Services. An investigation is continuing.

I AGREE THAT EVERY ONE SHOULD HAVE TO WEAR A HELMET WHILE RIDING ANY TYPE OF MOTORCYCLE. WHEN THE LAW CHANGES THAT EVERYONE MUST WEAR A HELMET THEN I WILL START WEARING A SEATBELT IN MY VEHICLE.ITS STUPID THAT I HAVE TO WEAR A SEATBELT BUT I DONT HAVE TO WEAR A HELMET WHEN I RIDE MY MOTORCYCLE.BUT I NEVER RIDE WITH OUT MY HELMET.

as well as drivers of cars do well over 100 on the interstate, should they all wear a helmet? most motorcycle related accidents are the fault of an auto not doing the right thing.

To concerned in RRG - when you say "There are lots of safe drivers out there that don't take chances with their lives like going to fast on the bikes" do you mean faster than the speed limit as in 100mph as I have seen on the interstate? If so, that's illegal and not considered safe. Anything above the speed limit is considered UNSAFE which is why there is a speed LIMIT in the first place. I agree; not all drivers are unsafe but if you drive faster than the posted speed limit, that is considered unsafe.

I disagree. There are lots of safe drivers out there that don't take chances with their lives like going to fast on the bikes. I also disagree about the helmet law... It should be the individuals choice. What is wrong with everyone these days... Seems like when the wall when down in Germany it came up in america... If a person chooses to ride without a helmet it is their choice they know the chances they are taking... And as long as the driver takes and passes the test to receive their liscenses everyone else needs to BACK OFF!

Yes sir, it should be mandatory as well as bringing back the helmet law. I have a friend who rides and always wears his helmet. His philosophy...if you don't wear a helmet while operating a motorcycle, you might as well put one bullet in a revolver and start playing russian roulette because there is no difference. Good point george - too many people THINK they have the skills but taking skills for granted is very true. You think you are doing the right thing because you have always done it, but in reality, it has been wrong from day one.

Robert...YES. Both my sons grew up with bikes but weren't allowed to operate them on the road until they completed EKU's course. Absolutely, it should be mandatory.

Did this person have a motorcycle training course? Probably many years of experience leading to taking skills for granted
