Officials in the Northern part of the state have issued a heat emergency.

Temperatures are expected to soar into the 90's this week.

Under the emergency, officials can open up cooling centers and provide free transportation for those over 60-years old.

Health officials say those at risk for heat-related illnesses should stay inside and drink plenty of water.

The emergency heat declaration is in place through Wednesday.

Now's the time funds need to be released from the federal government, to the local community action agencies--for help to provide fans or airconditioning to at risk folks...This used to be an annual event, although funding was limited---but the last couple years it hasn't happened. For the sick and elderly with heart and respiratory problems, this weather can truly be a life and death matter, even in their own homes.
