A series of suspicious home visits in Letcher County has some elderly people on edge.

Police say a young couple has been trying to scam several residents for money, but police say they may be looking for more trouble.

A few days ago, Louise Shepherd had an unexpected knock at her door.

The woman first asked to use Shepherd's bathroom where she stayed for almost 30 minutes.

When she returned, she asked a number of questions about the home and even tried to sell Shepherd magazines.

Police say a man was also seen attempting to sell magazines and books, and they believe the two are working together.

In addition to scamming money, police are guessing the couple may be looking for prescription drugs inside the homes and possibly planning future break-ins.

The man and woman were seen driving an older model brown explorer, both in their early twenties.

The woman has red hair and a small build.

The man is just over 200 pounds with dark skin and is clean cut.

Police say no one has been hurt, but victims are still checking their homes for possible stolen items.

Anyone with information should call the Whitesburg Police Department.
