Newspaper Has New Publisher

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) - Tom Spargur has been named publisher of
The Daily News in Middlesboro, Kentucky.
Spargur succeeds Gary Lawrence, who remains chief operating
officer of Heartland Publications southern division. Spargur also
has been named publisher of the weekly Claiborne Progress in
Tazewell, Tennessee, about 15 miles south.
Spargur was previously publisher for five Womack Publishing
weeklies in North Carolina, and served as corporate advertising
director for Womack properties.
He became publisher at Middlesboro on July 23rd. Besides
Middlesboro, Heartland Publications also owns the Harlan Daily
Enterprise and The Floyd County Times in Kentucky, other
non-dailies in Kentucky, and newspapers in other states.
