EKU President Tenders Resignation

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - The president of Eastern Kentucky University has tendered her resignation after interviewing yesterday for the top job at Bradley University.

Chairman Hunter Bates of Eastern's Board of Regents says Joanne Glasser made her intentions known early this morning.

Glasser had been Eastern's tenth president for six years.

Bates says the board will soon be communicating specific plans to the University community to provide for an orderly transition in leadership. He says an interim president will be named shortly and an aggressive national search will be launched for Eastern's next president.

Thanks all for the heads up. I'm a student at Bradley and she is already on her way to crashing us into the ground. it's hasn't even been a year and there is already some 35 page long alcohol plan that consists of high priced tickets, "rehab" group sessions, and even expulsion come the 3rd ticket. and she wants to target off campus housing and students 21 aren't guna be left out of all this, either. Thanks. we're all so excited...

Try going to school under her. We have nothing. High tuition, that's it. No Greek housing. She hates Greeks. I have more 50 yr olds in my classes than I do 18-25 yrs. Some people are nuts. This lady wanted to make EKU the way she wanted it, not the way it used to be. Sorry, but the only thing to do in Richmond is party, that's why it used to be #2 in the nation. HA, now there are 3 bars in Richmond. They are filled with the older EKU alumni's. That Glasser, for making EKU the way you wanted it. Bring in someone from here I agree. They know what it's all about. It's about tailgating at football games, and having life long friends. The education always came with the fun atmosphere of the campus. No one even enjoys school at EKU anymore. Where's the fun???

Ken, it's great to hear from people like you who would like to assume the EKU staff are LAZY and DISGRUNTLED.Unless you have had the displeasure of working under the constant changing administration of Joanne, you cannot speak to it.Over and over people tried to have an opinion that differed but they were pushed out or fired as a result.Have you tried working under different management EVERY year for six years in a row? With no clear direction, you always start back at square one with each new administrator. Yes, many of us as staff have gotten tired of training administrators and have had to work much too hard to do so in light of what we are paid.As for us not leaving our names,we love EKU and wish to remain employed there with a bright future under another President. No, you will probably never see names but we are the MAJORITY who have finally been given the freedom to at least tell the truth. You should join her at Bradley - you'd fit right in as her poodle until she tires of you.

As an alumna under Joanne's reign and staff, I can say that she did not take care of either students or staff. She took care of herself and other women in her little group. She raised tuition, gave little to no raises, except for maintaining her nice $305,000 salary. As far as being student oriented, she would only acknowledge your existence if you were of a particular ethnicity. You can look at any publication or commencement ceremony and see who she stops to hug and to take pictures with. Discrimination-definately. And oh the pictures of herself-they never ended. She has continued to create turmoil among the faculty and staff at EKU with an unstable administration. And as far as EKU staff having to prove our worth to keep our jobs, the woman did not know that staff existed. We were simply beneath her. Nothing to prove there.

Heather, Joanne put on a good face for the public. She was not like that at all though. Take it from someone who worked closely with her for the last six years.

Looks like there are quite a few disgruntled workers who didn't like Joanne. Could it be that you FINALLY had to prove your worth to keep your job? She was a President who took care of the students. You will not find another student oriented President like her. Just because she didn't "rub your belly" doesn't mean she didn't do her job. It's kind of funny you can say good riddance and that she ran EKU into the ground but you haven't given one reason to back up your comments. You guys can't even sign your own name you just use Anonymous or EKU staff; that in itself is a joke. Sorry you guys actually had to work to earn a paycheck. You lost a good one and you don't even know it!

Free at Last! I hope Bradly doesn't try to give her back. Her public persona was a facade. She is a manipulative, self centered, self serving, narcisistic, evil person. Just ask the 6 Provosts, 11 Deans or Vice Presidents and innumerable Directors who were fired or forced to leave by her during the 6 years she was here. Finally the reign of terror has ended. Hopefully we will now move into an era of stability and true leadership.
