90 Jobs lost in Lexington due to sequester

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - More Central Kentucky workers are feeling the effect of federal budget cuts.

Nearly 100 workers at Ceradyne in Lexington have learned they'll be losing their jobs. We're told its all the result of cuts to the Defense Department.

Ceradyne produces ceramics used for body armor. In a letter sent to several Lexington and Fayette county officials, 3M Ceradyne cites a downturn in body armor business as the reason for this mass layoff. They say that's a direct result of the Department of Defense's reduced funding for body armor.

A letter sent to the employees says the layoffs will be in Ceradyne's hot press and supporting departments, but they haven't come up with a list of specific employees.

Ceradyne officials say the plant will stay open after the layoff. The plant opened in 2004
