Another KY Health Department Considers Smoking Ban

Until today, the Madison County Health Department was the only one in Kentucky to consider a smoking ban, then approve it. Now, the Hopkins County Health Department in western Kentucky has been tossed the hot potato by its fiscal court.

Hopkins Fiscal Court accepted a committee's recommendation
yesterday to take no action on a smoking ban and refer the proposal
to the health department. The action followed a July 24th committee
meeting when members discussed a number of objections to a smoking
ban. The majority of the magistrates expressed concerns over an
intrusion of government into business owners' rights.

The issue first became public in November when a Hopkins County
Central High School government class petitioned Fiscal Court to ban

What about not driving a car, dangerous emissions from cars are more frequent than smokers. And no I don't smoke, but I think we are being just a little overzealous on going after people that don't do just as us.If they want to smoke, make them go outside,if they throw thier butts down, fine them for littering. What's next though, soda, sugar, etc.

The entire state of Ky. needs a smoking ban. I would defintely like to see a smoking ban in Laurel Co. Up until the new county court house opened, a "Yes, you may smoke" sign hung in the county court clerks office. I personally found that to be offensive. But, in general, people who smoke are selfish people who only care about what they want to do. They never for one second consider the health of all the people they expose to their second-hand smoke. Wake-up Ky. Good healthcare for all Kentuckians could start with a smoke free environment!!!!!!!!!!!!
