Deadly Early Morning Accident In Perry County

A Knott County woman is dead after a car accident Friday morning.

Police say a pick up truck rear ended a mechanics truck near the intersection of Highway 476 and Highway 80. Police say the mechanics truck was moving very slow when it was hit. The wife of that driver says he was shocked, but not hurt.

"He'd been gone from the house about ten to fifteen minutes or whatever. He called me and said I've been in a wreck. Somebody's hit me, you know rear ended me. He said I hope everyone's all right. He said they hit me hard. They tore my truck up really bad," said Sharon Davis, whose husband was involved in the accident.

Police say 33 year old Stephanie McDaniel of Emmalena died in the crash. She was in the pickup. The driver of that truck, Eric Reed, was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center. Neither of them were wearing seatbelts.

How fast does anyone think a loaded truck can move up that hill. Looks to me as if someone was driving to fast. My prayers goes out to Stephanie's family.
