A Madison County man is taken into custody for the murder of a two-year-old girl.
That child's mother was already in custody when police tracked down her boyfriend this morning.
Now both Verona Brinegar and Ronald Crabtree are charged with murder for the death of Callie Robinson.
We spoke to Crabtree last night, when he called 27 NEWSFIRST from a payphone in Monticello saying he was innocent.
That's when we called Richmond Police, who notified Wayne County Officials that Crabtree was in the area. He was later arrested along Highway 90, and transported to Richmond Police Department, where he was charged with murder.
Neighbors say Callie's mother, Verona Brinegar, brought her to their door in a panic, saying that her daughter wasn't breathing. That's when they called 911, and watched as Brinegar tried to perform CPR on Callie.
When Crabtree spoke with 27 NEWSFIRST, he said he put Callie to bed in a sleeping bag, and when he went to check on her, she wasn't breathing. He said he panicked, leaving his pregnant girlfriend behind.
Both Brinegar and Crabtree appeared in court this morning on the murder charge where they pleaded not guilty.
They're due back in court next week.
