John, I agree with you about mentioning the horse. The man who died used to work with my husband and I just met him at Toys R Us back in December. I just found out today it was he who died. I'm just so torn up!

I do not understand why the driver of the SUV was not charged for something. But I do not know the whole circumstances involved, but if she pulled out in front of him, that means she was not paying attention, and that, to me, would be wreckless driving. It is also good that the woman was not injured, but who really cares if the horse was or not. It is sad that people put trees, horses, etc., before human life. Just like the Herald Leader said in their article 'The horse was not hurt. I think it is inappropriate, sad, and in bad taste, to even mention anything about a horse after a man has lost his life.
