Relative Hits, Kills Toddler While Driving

A Louisville toddler is dead, after being hit by an SUV driven by a relative.

The accident happened in the parking lot of an apartment complex off Preston Highway.

Police say a relative was dropping off the boy's mother, when the driver didn't see the boy in the parking lot.
Right now, it's unclear if the boy had been riding in the SUV.

The child was one and a half years old. Police say they won't file charges.

AP Story

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A toddler died after being struck by a vehicle driven by a relative, police said.

The 18-month-old boy was struck by a sport utility vehicle in
the parking lot of an apartment complex and died at the scene,
authorities said.

No charges were pending, said Officer Phil Russell, a Louisville
Metro Police spokesman.

The relative was dropping off the boy's mother at the
apartments, Russell said. After letting the woman out, he pulled
forward and accidentally struck the toddler, who he did not see,
Russell said.

"Everything so far points to this being an extremely tragic
accident," he said.

Things like this happen so fast.I'm heart broken for the family of this baby. I can't imagine what the mother is going through,or the driver. It only takes a second for little ones to get away and they have no idea of the dangers this world is full of.I'm praying for the family.

I think that this was truly a freak acident. It is a shame that this child had to go like this. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family in this time of crisis. God bless you little one. You are in good hands. This is what the family needs to keep in mind while trying to cope.
