ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - President Bush placed a phone call Friday
to evangelist Billy Graham. The aging preacher remains under close
observation at a western North Carolina hospital after three
episodes of intestinal bleeding.
Hospital officials say Bush expressed his prayers for a prompt
recovery.
Graham has been a close confidant to several presidents
including Bush. He remains in fair condition at Mission Health &
Hospitals in Asheville. Graham is on a liquid-only diet as he
recovers from a Wednesday colonoscopy to treat his intestinal
bleeding.
Doctors believe the bleeding may have been caused by small
pouches that can form in the lower intestine, known as diverticuli.
A diverticular bleed often begins suddenly and may stop on its own.
