Men Arrested In Elaborate Gas Theft

Police in Madison County captured two suspects today in an elaborate plot to steal gasoline.

Investigators say back on August 12th, Jeffrey and Christopher Lawson used special equipment, hidden in a horse trailer, to take nearly 500 gallons of gas from an underground tank.

It happened at a BP Gas Station, just off I-75 at exit 95 in Madison County.

Investigators used surveillance video to identify the suspects.
Both were arrested Monday and face theft charges.

From a strictly technical standpoint, I must say: Their method sounds more creative than the typical "drive-off" or "stolen license plate" methods. I wonder if they intended to re-sell all that gas, or keep it for personal use... The latter being the case, if these two had applied even half that ingenuity to a good job hunt, then perhaps they'd not have needed to steal gas at all.
