More than 200,000 people across the region volunteer every year to take personal responsibility in a desirable environment...known as PRIDE.

Tuesday, those volunteers were honored at PRIDE's 10th Anniversary celebration and the PRIDE Envi awards.

The story of PRIDE is written in dozens of schools and counties across southeastern Kentucky, by volunteers, both young and old every day.

Sometimes the changes are immediate and others blossom over time.

To encourage the progress and to show appreciation, Executive Director Karen Engle started the PRIDE Envi Awards for volunteers.

“The story of PRIDE would have ended if you hadn't gotten involved,” Engle said.

In need of more funding, to begin the next chapter of success, Congressman Hal Rogers secured three million dollars for sewer projects, local cleanups and educations efforts. Governor Ernie Fletcher presented a check from the Kentucky Department of Transportation.

WYMT will air the PRIDE Envi Awards September 24th at 7:00pm.
