State Police Plan Labor Day Highway Patrols

Throughout the Labor Day weekend state police and local authorities will be out in full force. State police say they'll have "saturation patrols" on interstate highways and roads leading to boat ramps and waterways.

The Labor Day weekend driving period begins at six o'clock this evening and continues until one minute before midnight Monday.

State Police caution that motorists who speed or don't wear a
seat belt will be cited and not just get a warning.

In 2006 during the three-day Labor Day weekend, there were 770 accidents on Kentucky highways that resulted in nine fatalities, including six victims who were not wearing seat belts. More than 500 people have died on Kentucky highways in 2007.
