Two marmosets confiscated from home
Two primates, officials say were illegally held at a Kentucky home, will soon be on their way to Florida.
Right now, the marmosets are being held at the Primate Rescue Center in Jessamine County.
It's illegal to import them into Kentucky.
The Primate Rescue Center rescues animals that have been given up by their owners, as well as animals used for medical research and in the entertainment industry.
This week, they're helping out the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife with the two marmosets.
Police believe a woman in Marion County bought the animals in Florida and brought them back to Kentucky.
Fish and Wildlife officials confiscated the animals and brought them to the Primate Rescue Center.
The experts at the center have found the animals a more appropriate home in Florida.
While the dangers of the larger primates are well known, experts say no primate should ever be kept as a pet.
"The smaller ones... They can grab ahold and they had sharp teeth," Eileen Dunnington, an animal care supervisor, said. "They can be just as dangerous as the big ones."
The marmosets will leave for Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary in Florida tomorrow, where they will live out the rest of their lives.
The Primate Rescue Center is funded by donors.
