Ernie Fletcher Campaign To Begin Third Anti-Casino Ad

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Ernie Fletcher is expected to begin
airing the third in a series of political ads opposing casino
gambling on Wednesday.
The ads, to air on television stations across the state, shows
Fletcher talking with Stewart Umholtz, an Illinois prosecutor,
about the ills of casino gambling.
Umholtz, who ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for Illinois
attorney general last year, said since casinos opened in Tazewell
County, Ill., he has seen a rise in unusual theft cases - people
stealing money from cemetery associations, libraries, even schools.
"We didn't have those cases before the casino came to our
county, and we're having them now," he said. "So, I think the
facts speak for themselves."
Fletcher, a Republican, has made his opposition to casino
gambling the centerpiece of his re-election campaign. His
Democratic opponent, Steve Beshear, has said he favors allowing
Kentucky voters to decide whether to amend the state constitution
to allow casinos.
