Water Officials Keeping Close Eye On Water Usage

Police have gotten more than 60 complaints of people not obeying mandatory water restrictions.

Kentucky American Water issued the restrictions last Tuesday, only allowing people to water at specific times.

Lexington Police have issued four citations.

Officials with the water company are keeping a close eye on just how much water customers are using.

They're considering issuing an all out watering ban.

I am just curious as to why the city of Richmond has not implemented any restrictions in water usage as the rest of central KY has done.(?) To my knowledge, we all get our water out of the Kentucky River. I believe our pipes run very close to the ones KY-American Water Co. uses that provide water to the city of Lex. Additionally, I find it interesting that although the city of Lex has issued restrictions against its homeowners, I can still drive down Richmond Rd. and find sprinklers spraying the cars that go by in front of the entrance to the new development in front of Jacobson Park/Lake.(?) I'm sorry but that seems wasteful regardless of WHO'S doing it!

I am on my break and thought to take a few minutes to address this situation per the letter to the Herald Leader editor - UK is NOT using "fresh" water on plants, trees, bushes, flowers, etc. on campus. The wonderful PPD Grounds Department is using NON-potable water which would otherwise be unusable. In this way they can water all day, any day and save the beauty of our flora on campus. I say to the female that wrote the paper to research her facts before accusing/assuming anyone of doing something in error.
