Fall From Bridge Kills Teen

A teen is dead after falling nearly 200 feet from a bridge in southern Jessamine County. It happened around 4:30p.m. Thursday at the High Bridge.

Officials say four teens were hanging out there when Timmy Williams, 18, lost his footing and slipped.

County fire crews had to use ropes to repel down to Williams. They got to him just after five, but he was apparently dead from his injuries.
Officials say foul play is not suspected.

Williams graduated from East Jessamine High School in May 2007.

If there is a fence and barbed wire already in place and you have to maneuver through that to get to the bridge, what else can you do? Youth will be youth; you either get the meaning of "STAY OUT" or you don't; if you don't, you pay the consequences. An accident...NO; A tragedy...YES! People need to understand the barriers are there for a reason. I feel for the family but this could have been prevented by adhering to and obeying the barriers to keep people out.

It is common knowledge that High Bridge is well known among Central KY youth as a great place to gather for sex, drugs and alcohol. The local authorities really need to do something to keep these kids away from there. Nothing good happens at High Bridge--especially at night. I'm not saying that this particular young man was involved in any of those activities, but something definitely needs to be done to prevent future tragedies at this site.

Just so people know, the bridge is surrounded with fencing and barbed wire. It's very obvious that you should not be out on the brige. However, every year I see tourists up on the bridge during Ichthus and other events in our area. Actions have been taken to try and stop this sort of thing. However, there are thrill seekers everywhere. It's hard to stop people that are determined to break the rules. I feel for Timmy Williams' family and friends. I want them to know they are in my prayers.

Agreed that is a bad thing to happen to anyone, MC & Mel. I understand there are preventive measures already in place, you would have to put a 24 hr. armed guard in place ot keep some from trying to climb onto the bridge. Armed because he (or she) would have to shoot some to keep them from climbing the bridge.

It seems that the old saying that at least 10 people from your graduationg class wont live to be 30 is becoming more and more true every year. This tragic loss is one that many in this world have seen all too often. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew and loved Timmy!! Rest In Peace
