Breast Feeding Supporters Rally In Front Of Lexington Applebee's

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Dozens of people rallied in front of an Applebee's restaurant in Lexington today to support a woman who said she was told to cover up while breast-feeding her son.

Brooke Ryan said she was breast-feeding her 7-month-old son at the restaurant in June when a manager asked her to cover up. Kentucky state law prohibits any interference with a breast-feeding mother.

Ryan did not attend the event for "personal reasons" but protesters said they are tired of being criticized for something that is a natural process.

Applebee's spokesman Alex Bressett said the restaurant's policies regarding breast-feeding are consistent with the laws of the states in which the restaurant is located.

I wish, so badly, that another restaurant chain would take this and run with it. Panera Bread Co, where are you? Run ads that show yourself as friendly to women who wish to nurse. Outback? Olive Garden? Step up! Cracker Barrel? Cm' oh...nevermind on that last one.

While everyone has a right to their opinion and to make their point known, whether we agree with it or not, I do have a problem with the post by "fed up." You say ### i guarantee she does not even hold a job .just a bored housewife looking for some attention### How dare you!! My wife has not held a "job" as you state because we chose to have her stay home and take care of the kids. She is not only a mother but a cook, maid, chauffeur, grocery shopper, health care specialist (to a point) and is there at all times. You really don't have a clue. I normally don't get this emotionally involved in a discussion and only stay to the facts, but you are totally out of line. By the way, learn how to spell and use punctuation properly as well as capitalization and I might take any future posts from you on a more professional level.

Ken, HILARIOUS! That was great! Maybe I'll make a copy of it and carry it around in my diaper bag with me "just in case!" That was too good!

To Trish in Corbin, don't even try to get biblical to prove your point because it's not working! If you want to go there, the Bible clearly states that women should be decent and cover themselves, ALL the time! You are just using breastfeeding as an excuse to try to show yourself or get attention! I agree with some of the other people on here.I'm sick of all of the sexuality that comes with everything now days!If you wanna undress, then do it at home! Nobody wants to go out to a restaurant or mall or anywhere and have to look at everyone else's bodies!I am a nursing mother myself, but I have respect for other people to cover myself when I feed my baby!No wonder people have no morals anymore!People like you teach them as babies that it's ok to let everything hang out as long as you have an excuse for it! It's just your way of trying to get away with it!Think about other people for a change! You AREN"T the only one that matters in the world!Stop thinkg you are!

Hey Ken, you need to go to Applebee's happy hour :) Thanks for shifting the tide of this name-calling, angry discussion about an easily solved situation. A little tolerance from both sides (compromise?) and a lot more humor is in order.

For the record my WIC office hands out those cards with the state law to their breastfeeding clients, most WIC offices do. Why, because so many people and public places are in violation of the law when they try and restrict a baby from breastfeeding. The person who complained to the manager of the Applebee's should have been kicked out for being a pervert who is staring at the poor Woman trying to feed her baby. Any one else find it ironic that the only person getting a real meal without all the fat and atificial chemicals was the baby. I avoided Crapplebees before now i really won't ever go there.

Hey "are you kidding me:" how do you know it's anger that READ THE STORY is displaying? Maybe he/she is just telling the truth and you can't handle it. It's an opinion; you have one and so does everyone else. They didn't pick you out of the crowd and single you out. Why the hostility from you? Maybe they hit a nerve and actually described you?

She was 'Feeding' her baby. You all say you wouldn't want to see it while eating but are you forgetting that the baby was eating too? Shame on you for acting this way. Everyone talks about how far we've fallen in society yet when something natural happens, everyone rants and becomes offended. Grow up people.
