AUDIO: RINEYVILLE Double Murder 911 Tape

RINEYVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Two women were found shot to death at a central Kentucky home Tuesday after the 9-year-old son of one of the victims called police and said he had heard gunfire and the women weren't moving, officials said.

The child was one of three whom police found unharmed in the home in Rineyville, about 35 miles south of Louisville.

Tracy D. Burke, 31, and her former mother-in-law, Karen D. Comer, 53, both lived at the residence. Authorities believe the women had been dead overnight.

The boy who called police is 9 years old, and the others are 5 and about 2, police said.

"We had a child to call in, the child was scared, called in and said that the people here were not moving," said Lt. Shannon West of Kentucky State Police, which was investigating.

Police said the children heard gunshots and hid in the house for hours before calling police shortly before 1 p.m. EDT.

"They were fearful through the night, I guess, of calling and the oldest child called today," he said Tuesday.

The children were in the care of a crisis intervention team.

"We don't know exactly what they've seen because we haven't been able to interview them yet," West said. "Right now, their physical and emotional welfare is our first priority."

No weapons were found at the scene, and there were no suspects, police said.

I feel so sorry for these poor little kids. What a terrible scene they must have saw. That would be hard for an adult, let alone a little precious child. I don't know these kids, but help me pray for them that God will comfort them and maybe give them the courage and rememberance to be able to tell who did this by a voice or picture. May God be with them is all I know to say. Poor little precious children going through such a terrible thing. Now for the rest of their lives they will have that picutre of there mother and grandmother in their heads. God Bless them and Keep them safe.....

I agree with you Amy, I don't agree with airing the 911 tapes either. That was an error in judgement in my belief.

They did show a picture of the victims last night on the 10pm FOX NEWS. I am not sure where she was from. Sounds fishy that the ex mother in law AND she were killed; sounds like the son of the ex MIL may have had a beef with both?

I cant find words to express the feelings. Its just too sad and... Just cant find the words. Hope these kids get the help necessary to feel a bit better and protected. Thank God they were not kill -at least-, and lets pray they can pass this and have something close to a normal life after such horrorific scene. Its like a TV series, it just so not supposed to happen. Hope the animal who did this is caught and lets pray the police will allow some of us to have at least 30 seconds with him --alone.

OH MY GOD! I am actually crying after hearing that poor brave little boy. I have a very smart almost five year old son and I can not imagine his reaction to witnessing somthing like this and seeing me on the floor in a puddle of blood and gore, not responding and him having to take responsibility of his sibling(s) for hours all alone and terrified. What is this world coming to? Have things gotten worse or am I just paying more attention now that I am a Mother? Someone please tell! To shelter him from the things my friends' kids are hearing in public school (7yr olds talking about sex etc..)I have been working extra to put him in private schools. We attended a seminar for parents at school on sex offenders and now I'm afraid to let him out of my sight. You cant trust anyone now it seems. The people that hurt your children are always very close and trusted people. Family, close friends, teachers, preists, parents of other students, day care workers etc. HOW CAN WE KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE?

This is probably not something that's going to be very popular, but I thing releasing the 911 tape is inappropriate. This thing is on the news everywhere and how much more damage will be done to these children (especially the two older ones) when they hear it over and over? What purpose does making something like that public serve? *Sorry, this website included.*

I agree with Anonymous, somone needs to look into the father and his whereabouts. (drugs aren't an issue in this!)

Karen, I agree, that was my first thought, too, for it to be so violent, and to happen in front of children. These poor children, they will be scarred for life by what they saw or heard.

I hope that the children will be able to tell who did this to their mother. It's awful that they had to witness this in the first place! What is the USA coming to? No one is safe anywhere because we let criminals go free way to often!
