Some Lexington Homeowners Fed Up With Wild Parties After Football Games

A big win for the cats turned into a big headache for some people who live near the UK Campus.

Homeowners along Elizabeth Street say after Saturday's game, they dealt with everything from wild parties to bonfires in their driveways.

Some worry it's a sign of things to come.

So several homeowners plan to attend a meeting tonight with Mayor Jim Newberry and other city officials, including the police.

The meeting will address the topic of partying in neighborhoods after football games.

It kicks off at 7 Tuesday night at the Southside Church of Christ on Nicholasville Road.

We'll tell you what came out of the meeting tonight, on 27 NEWSFIRST At 11.

To the previous post, my husband is not 'uneducated' as you call him. Just because he doesn't phrase something the way you think it should be done (because nobody really ever does) is not a reason to call him uneducated. Obviously, you are just plan rude because uneducated people as you say, make you smile.

Building a fire in someone's yard and littering are crimes. By the way, your grammar sucks..."isn't there more important things?????" Maybe you meant, "aren't there more important things..." I love when uneducated people argue; it makes me smile! :)

It seems to me people are making a mountain out of a molehill....isn't there more important things to worry about other than some college kids having fun? What about all the crime and just plain evil going on around us,nobody seems to care as much about that as some kids.....ACTING THEIR AGE!!!

Does anybody remember the celebration riot over the basketball win that ended with cruisers damaged, cars overturned, and massive destruction and looting? This is a college town and we profit immensely from that. Lighten up.

The people complaining are probably the same ones who pay thousands of dollars for season tickets to the basketball games and sit there,in lower level,at Rupp Arena the whole ballgame without so much as a hand clap! Come on,lighten up a little bit! It was a HUGE win, and I think people have a right to celebrate it if they want to! If you live downtown, then it's a chance you are gonna have to take! Loud noises at night is just a part of it!

UK is the reason I chose to live in Frankfort! I hate UK football, basketball, and the UK Hospital and college! UK, UK, that's all you hear about! There are other colleges that are just as good, if not better than UK! As far as the partying, it probably would bother people so much, if the partygoers would be the least bit considerate of others, but they are not! There are loud, stupid acting smart alecks who think they have all the rights!

If they are in college they should be old enough to know not to take it to far and seems some don't. I agree it was a big feat for the UK football team. They should be allowed to build a bonfire and get drunk but I agree a neighbor hood is not the place for this. Maybe a field somewhere outside of town where they can pitch a tent and do whatever. But, grow up UK students your there to get an education to get out into the real world not to party all night and waste your time. It isn't any wonder though because LEX is bad for letting college antics go on all the time and do nothing about it saying it is just a prank! To the ones that built the fires did you ever consider anyone else and their belongings if that fire had gotten out of hand? What if one of your class mates had gotten drunk or to close to the flames an was injured would you have cared or would you have laughed about it? The youth in this day and time have no respect for anyone or anything it seems. Time to grow up children!

90% of the houses on Elizabeth Street and the surrounding areas are college students. The police are over there all the time, why don't we just make sure all college students are forced not to celebrate anything and make them all Puritans! They were just having some fun,if they were destrying property, charge them, but, they do this other times too and I haven't heard anythig...must be some Lousville fans that live on Elizabeth and State streets.Maybe they just got to the age of not remembering their youth and need to move.

Why do people even care if some overgrown ego guys throw balls better than some other overgrown ego guys? Grow up. I don't even see why anyone parties after the game -- it's not like *you* played and won. duh

Now Barney, we don't call them student drunks now do we? We call them drinking impaired or alcohol illiterate. Drunk just sounds too mean. Give me your gun Barney...and the bullet.
