There's been a deadly crash in Pulaski County, on Highway 80, near the Laurel County line where a semi slammed into a car pushing it hundreds of feet.

Police say a Ford Taurus driven by Verlena Proffitt, 40, ran a stop sign while headed from Kentucky Highway 1956 onto Highway 80. Police say that's when the car crossed the path of a semi truck causing the two to crash.

A Pulaski County Sheriff says the impact was immediate and when the truck hit the car, it carried it several yards from the initial impact.

Three other women were in the vehicle. Trista Weisel, 21, was immediately killed. Proffitt and Linda Stewart, 21, were flown to the UK Hospital. Proffitt is listed in critical condition and Stewart is listed in fair condition. We're told the other passenger, Dawn Hutton, 20, was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

The driver of the truck, Michael Mcnutt, 40, was not injured.

welll for everyone that needs to know. shut up. its ridiculous that you wanna trach people who have suffered enough. we lost Sue the driver to. It wasnt her fault that Trista (weezy) died to. They were best friends. Sue would've never done anything to hurt Weezy. but their both gone now, and please show some respect, it's been over a month, and were all still grieving deeply.

A tragedy, yes! But the woman RAN A STOP SIGN!!! Was she texting or talking on her cell phone?? If the impact "was immediate", then she obviously pulled right out in front of the truck!! So sad!
