Richmond Road reopens after series of crashes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Richmond Road between Squires and Shoreside Drive reopened around 3:30 p.m. Friday.

It closed around 4 a.m. after, police say, a driver crashed into several vehicles. This was a wreck that came with a warning. Lexington Police tell us they got a call from a Shell attendant on Richmond Road early Friday morning that a man that appeared to be intoxicated was filling up his gas tank. By the time police caught up with the truck that matched the description the station attendant gave them, they were facing a wreck involving five cars with three people injured.

"I was driving down the right hand side of the road and I noticed a pick up truck up at the next intersection had crossed over into our lane at a high rate of speed and he didn't even try to slow down or anything," says David Browning.

Browning considers himself very lucky. He watched the driver hit cars around him, but never his own.

"Everything just flipped around me. It missed me. It missed me entirely."

Police are looking into the possibility that the driver was drunk, but they won't know until they get results from the blood alcohol test.

Police say one person had serious injuries. Two had minor injuries.
