LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A police officer and a shoplifting suspect had to be rushed to the hospital after a chase outside a Lexington Walmart. This all happened near the Walmart at Nicholasville Road and Man o War.

Police say they chased the suspect across Nicholasville Road. And before the chase, police say the suspect tried to make an unusual escape from the store.

Police tell us it was an odd situation from the beginning at that Walmart. That's where a loss prevention employee initially caught a suspected shoplifter who then had to be caught again by police. It happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Seeing a shoplifter while allegedly in the act, police tell us a loss prevention employee was able to detain that suspected shoplifter. It was then that the suspect was put in an office to wait until police arrived. That's when we are told the man attempted to escape through the ceiling. He fell through that ceiling just as police arrived, leading them on a foot chase.

We are told the man was caught nearby after police stunned him with a taser. Both the suspect and officer were taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the pursuit. And we are told as of 11 p.m. that they were still being treated at the hospital.

Walmart employees are not able to comment on what happened, and surveillance video is not being released. Police tell us charges will follow in this case. The suspect's name is also not being released at this time.
