Area blood supply still in need

Lexington, KY (WKYT) - The Kentucky Blood Center says the areas supply of negative blood types has improved, but there is still a need for more donors.

“We are so grateful to all of the donors who came in and gave blood when they heard our need. We’ve had an especially good turnout of donors with negative blood types,” said Martha Osborne, Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment. “Only seven percent of the population has O negative blood, but last week more than 12% of those who donated with KBC were O negative. If that trend continues, we’ll be in good shape.”

To help encourage donors the Center is hosting Duck Dynasty Week. Everyone who registers to donate at all KBC locations through Aug. 16 will automatically be entered to win two tickets to see the stars of Duck Dynasty at the Kentucky State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 25.

In addition, Andover Donor Center donors can win daily prizes throughout the week.

On Wednesday the Beaumont Donor Center will host a Duck Dynasty Premier Party from 3 to 7 p.m. Donors can play games, win prizes and enjoy special refreshments.
