Author Tom Clancy, 66, dies in Baltimore hospital

Tom Clancy, the celebrated author of espionage thrillers and clandestine military adventures, died Tuesday night at a Baltimore hospital, according to the New York Times. He was 66.

BALTIMORE, Md. Tom Clancy, the celebrated author of espionage thrillers and clandestine military adventures, died Tuesday night at a Baltimore hospital, according to the New York Times. He was 66.

The Times was told by Clancy's publisher that he passed away at the hospital, not far from his Maryland home.

Clancy's first novel, The Hunt for Red October, became the inspiration for a hit film and sold more than 5 million copies.
