BEREA, Ky. (WKYT) - We have a new alert about a scam investigators say is targeting homeowners.
On Thursday, we told you about a man the Better Business Bureau says has been promising driveway work for cheap then overcharging victims.
People in Frankfort reported the scam and now the BBB thinks the same man has set up shop in Berea.
On Thursday, we first told you about Ida Wilson, a Franklin County woman who claims she was recently scammed by a group of men claiming to work for a paving company.
“The older man came over and knocked on my door and said ‘we are working in your neighborhood and we are putting blacktop down to make the houses look better’,” Wilson told us.
But she says their shoddy workmanship only made her driveway look worse and ended up costing her thousands of dollars.
After Thursday’s story, the BBB said they were bombarded with calls from people who had a similar story to tell; many folks claimed that this group of scammers had traveled to yet another Kentucky county to try out their tricks.
The BBB tells us the paving company has recently relocated to Berea. They say the company now is going by the name 'All American Paving and Seal Coating.'
BBB officials say the company has also been called 'Pave Rite' and 'Pave Pro.'
Regardless of the company's name, the checks are still being made out to and cashed by the exact same person--- known as George Hemphill.
So regardless of where this so-called company is from or where they're headed next, be sure to keep an eye out so you're not the next victim of another scammer's scheme.
