HAILEY, Idaho (AP) - Officials in Hailey, Idaho, say they canceled a June 28 welcome-home celebration for American soldier Bowe Bergdahl because of security concerns.
The town has been swamped with hate mail and angry phone calls since Berghdal was freed by the Taliban over the weekend, in exchange for the release of five Taliban members held at Guantanamo Bay.
Bergdahl was captured in Afghanistan in 2009 after walking away from his unit, unarmed. Critics accuse him of desertion.
