LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - An ongoing construction project is already slowing down many drivers along Versailles Road.
But with Keeneland's spring meet starting Friday, many people worry traffic will get even worse.
And at nearby Blue Grass Airport, they want to make sure travelers are aware of what's going on.
It's like a triple threat on Versailles Road starting on Friday. Road construction, Keeneland, and with the Blue Grass Airport located right in the middle of it all.
"Spring is always a great time and a busy time at the airport," said Amy Caudill, the marketing and public relations director at Blue Grass Airport.
Just about the time horses at Keeneland will be kicking up dirt, traffic for those flying out of town will kick in.
"It will be great when all of this is done certainly," said Caudill. "We will appreciate having the new roadways out there, and I'm sure so will our passengers and customers."
It hasn't happened yet, but the construction coupled with Keeneland's spring meet is expected to be a traffic headache.
Delays should be expected and not only for those on the ground but also in the sky.
"One of the main things that we are communicating to our passengers is to always arrive early for your flight," said Caudill. "That will allow you plenty of time to get here, check in, and still make your flight on time."
Flight times, of course, won't be affected unless you don't plan accordingly and miss your flight.
"During times when you're getting in and out of work are the times to keep in mind," said Caudill.
Many agree that the bottom line is horses, planes, cars, and construction make for a bad combination all at once.
Officials at Blue Grass Airport tell WKYT that they are working closely with the highway department and Keeneland to make sure everyone is on the same page about the construction.
Transportation leaders also suggest carpooling and taking Lextran buses to get to the airport or Keeneland.
