Burglar targets Lexington shopping strip damaged by fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A would-be burglar targeted a Lexington shopping center, that just last week, was the scene of a massive fire.

Last Thursday night, a fire tore through the Family Dollar Store and a restaurant on New Circle Road, destroying both.
But on Monday morning, someone tried to break in to some other businesses in that shopping strip.

A security guard called police when she saw a blue Ford Explorer ramming a storage building. When officers arrived, the would-be thief nearly ran into a police cruiser while trying to get away.
Officers followed the SUV onto Russell Cave Road, but the suspect got away.

Police told the security guard that the vehicle matched the description of one they received from other break-ins around town.

While doing a walk through of the business, police found other businesses had also been broken into. It appears nothing was stolen.
