FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - An Ohio attorney known as the godfather of the modern class-action lawsuit has paid $88,579 to cover the cost of an investigation leading to his disbarment in Kentucky.
In a filing with the Kentucky Supreme Court, the Kentucky Bar Association noted that Stanley Chesley of Cincinnati paid the money on Wednesday, closing his case.
The high court in March ordered Chesley disbarred in Kentucky after finding he acted unethically in a $200 million settlement involving the makers of the diet drug fen-phen.
Five other attorneys were banned from practicing law stemming from the case.
Chesley has been involved in an $85 million settlement with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington, Ky., over sexual abuse by priests and cases against Toyota over allegations that cars unintentionally accelerated.
