Churchill Downs turning twin spires red for U of L

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Churchill Downs will be in the limelight in a few weeks when the 139th Kentucky Derby is contested, but for now, officials at the historic track are happy to share its spotlight with the University of Louisville.

Louisville's men's and women's basketball teams are both playing in NCAA Final Four games this weekend, and Churchill Downs will bathe the track's iconic twin spires in red light in honor of the team colors.

Louisville's men's team plays Wichita State in a semifinal game Saturday night, and Louisville meets California in women's semifinal action Sunday night.

The track, which is situated near the university south of downtown Louisville, says the spires will be bathed in red throughout the rest of the NCAA tournaments.
