Community leaders handing out blankets to those in need

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police officers, sheriff's deputies, and volunteers are out delivering new blankets to those in need in Lexington.

The blankets came in Monday afternoon.

Over the weekend, God's Net handed out 3,000 blankets. Now they have 4,000 new blankets they're hoping to hand out Monday night.

"As cold as it is, I'm sure they'll be thrilled to get them," said volunteer Raymond Mormon, who braved the cold to help load boxes, "I'm glad to be able to do this for them because I've been there, done that, and I tell you it's not fun being out there in this cold freezing weather without blankets."

"We've actually been receiving phone calls since yesterday evening from people here in need of extra blankets," explained Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt, "a lot of our members of our community are on fixed incomes and so they're not able to adjust that thermostat just because the temperatures have bottomed, and so we're trying to find people who need extra blankets."
