Crime Alert: Nicholasville Police warn of rise in car break-ins

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - An alert for people living in Jessamine County. Nicholasville Police say the number of car break-ins has jumped the past few weeks. We're told they've stolen from 20 cars this month, taking whatever they can.

Police tell us the victims made themselves easy targets. Sergeant Scott Harvey says, in every case, the cars were unlocked. The weather can contribute to an increase in the crime.

"As temperatures begin to warm up, this something we usually see an up spike in. It's starting a little early this year, so we're trying to get proactively in front of it and encourage people to help us make it more difficult for these folks," says Sgt. Harvey.

He tells us if people had hidden their valuables and locked their doors, there's a good chance they wouldn't have become a victim.

Nicholasville Police say they have had several cases where cars were broken in to, but nothing was taken.
