DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - One man has been arrested in a double shooting that police say happened outside a crowded grocery store.

WKYT's cameras were rolling early Tuesday when Joshua Sargent, 21, was taken into custody at a home on Randolph Hill in Danville just around the corner from where the shooting took place.

Police say Sargent shot John Cherry, 18, and Cheyenne Pinkston, 17, outside Rincon Latino on South Second Street around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Both victims were taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Pinkston has been treated and released. Cherry was flown on to UK Hospital where he is listed in fair condition.

Police say surveillance video and interviews with witnesses led them to Sargent. They say he put people inside the store in danger.

"There were rounds inside the store, there were people inside. Small kids, children inside shopping at he time of the incident," said Danville Police Chief Anthony Gray, Jr.

Sargent is charged with two counts of attempted murder and wanton endangerment.

Police haven't released a motive for the shooting. Cherry and Sargent live less than half a mile from each other.
