EKU Rugby team loses appeal on hazing suspension

Eastern Kentucky University has denied an appeal to throw out a two-year suspension of the school's Rugby team.

An investigation into hazing prompted the university to suspend the men's rugby team until the spring of 2016. The investigation began after someone found blood in a freshman's dorm room. The freshman had supposedly participated in a paddling ritual using a 2x4.

Representatives of the rugby team say they're appealed the decision for two reasons. They say their punishment is too severe, and that the committee doesn't have all the facts pertaining to the case.

Farrell admits a rugby player does have the 2x4, but says its not part of a rugby tradition, initiation, or the team.

Claire Good, Ph.D., Interim VP for Student Affairs & Dean of Students, sent a letter saying that the appeal filed on behalf of the team was denied. The letter also said the punishment levied against the team will stand.
