MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - An elderly man was found dead along a Mercer County road, officers say it appears the man died from exposure.

The Mercer County Sheriff's department tells WKYT that 82-year-old Curtis Keeling was found dead on Mundy's Landing Road around 6:30am Monday morning.

Officers say that Keeling, who had early signs of dementia, visited his wife in a local nursing home around 4pm on Sunday and wasn't seen again after that.

"It appears that he became disoriented. We located his car which was disabled. He had become stuck (in the mud) on the edge of the roadway. Evidently it appears that he got out and went walking," explained Captain Scott Elder, of the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.

Keeling was found by someone driving down the road early Monday morning, on the same road as his car, just a few miles from his home.

Investigators say he appears to have died from exposure.
