Cynthiana, Ky. (WKYT) -James A. Brown served as Cynthiana Mayor in the mid 90s and then was re-elected in 2007 to 2009.

James Brown's estranged wife, Brenda Kay Brown is now accused of exploiting him.

According to an indictment, Kay is accused of financially exploiting Brown while he was incapable, due to mental or physical dysfunctioning to manage his own resources.

"It's sad when somebody does someone like that, if they're not in their right mind, " says Jerry Fryman, a Cynthiana resident.

Kay Brown also faces a first degree perjury charge and second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Some Cynthiana residents tell WKYT it was shocking to hear the things she is accused of because of the impact Mr. Brown has had on the community.

"It's a shame for someone to have been as consciousness and as unselfish as Mr. Brown was in trying to help our community. I cannot believe that anybody would have exploited him," says Debbie Palmer, a Cynthiana resident.

Fryman says, "That's sad to take advantage of someone like that, if that's true what they say."

WKYT was not able to locate Kay Brown to ask for a comment.
