LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A teenage boy hit by a car on Tuesday is still at UK Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his leg Wednesday morning.

Jacob Proffitt, 16, suffered multiple broken bones after being hit by a car Wednesday, according to his aunt Tracy Coleman. She says he underwent surgery to have a metal rod put in his leg and will have surgery on his arm next. Proffitt also has a broken shoulder, broken wrist and broken ankle, as well as cuts to his face.

Police say the teenage boy was crossing New Circle Road, just past the Harrodsburg entrance on the inner loop. That's when he was hit by a car in the left lane.

Coleman told us her nephew was just crossing the road to get to where his dad works to apply for a job. She also says despite Jacob's long road to recovery, he's already getting back to his usual self.

"His mother who's been here all night long, she's a wreck, she said that he will forget what happened. He'll go to sleep, wake up, forget what's happening. But he is talking, he is awake. His mother said he's telling nurses how hot they are," Tracy Coleman laughs. "That's Jacob."

Police say the driver was also taken to the hospital but those injuries didn't appear to be serious.
