Family unhappy with manslaughter sentencing

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Nevada man has been sentenced to 10-years in prison for the 2011 slaying of a western Kentucky man.

The Messenger reported that 49-year-old Arthur Deramo of Reno, Nev., could be parole eligible by September after being given credit for 584 days served in custody.

Deramo pleaded guilty in February in Hopkins Circuit Court to killing Jeremy Goodwin in 2011. Goodwin's remains were found in a field in January 2012.

Goodwin's family was upset with Judge James Brantley, calling the sentence too lenient. Goodwin's mother, Brenda Huddleston, said the family has "a lifetime to serve" after the death.

Huddleston added that there are unanswered questions about Goodwin's death, including why things weren't investigated better.
