LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Tickets won't be handed out until Saturday morning, but some UK fans are already camping out for Big Blue Madness tickets.
Many are already gathered across from Memorial Coliseum even though tickets for 2013 Big Blue Madness won't be available until Saturday. So Tuesday night we asked them what they do to pass the time while lining up only to line up again and wait three more days.
"Play cards, board games, and football," said Rob Ballinger, one of the UK fans camping out.
"I'm doing AP U.S. history homework right now and then I have some English that I have to do later," said Courtney Rowland, another UK fan.
"We got a few things to eat like french fries and burgers and pop from Ramsey's. And we listen to the radio to pass the time," said Bobby McGohon.
"We are going to probably just play on our phones all night until they die. Then we're probably going to go to the coffee shop and charge them as needed," said Jerran Webster, also sitting outside Memorial Coliseum.
What's one thing they all have in common? They all bleed blue. Some have camped out before, but for others it was their first time. And they said so far, so good. But they have several more hours outside waiting.
Tickets are free again this year, but there will be a limit of four tickets per person at Memorial Coliseum. Online orders will have a minimal service fee attached, and there will be a limit of four tickets per household.
At the request of campus public safety officials, fans who wish to line up ahead of time are being asked to do so no earlier than Wednesday October 2, but dozens have already began lining up across the street from the Coliseum. Campers are encouraged to come prepared with their tents and other belongings prior to arriving at Memorial Coliseum.
With the construction on the Lexington Avenue side of the Joe Craft Center, campers are being asked to be mindful of construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction sites during daytime hours.
UK Athletics leaders say they have a plan to keep everything under control as fans wait for tickets. Two years ago fans made a mad dash across the Avenue of Champions to begin lining up outside Memorial Coliseum. Some fans say things got a little too crazy that year.
So now UK leaders say fans can not start lining up outside the Coliseum until Wednesday at 5 a.m. They ask fans to be courteous and to use caution when crossing the street then. They say public safety officials will be on hand to help out. And they say any fans being disorderly or unsafe will be kicked out of the line.
