Father talks about Knox County crash that killed son, four others

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - We're learning more about the victims of a deadly Christmas Eve crash in southern Kentucky.

Police say David Vanderpool's car crossed the median of U.S. 25-E and slammed into a car carrying Gary and Patricia Caldwell, their daughter Julia Robinson and their son-in-law Brent Robinson.

All five were killed.

Brent Robinson's father is Don Robinson, a well-known major league baseball pitcher.

According to a Tampa television station, Brent and Julia Robinson had just been at Don Robinson's Bradenton, Florida home for Christmas dinner on Sunday night.

"I keep thinking in my mind that 10 years from now, he's not going to be here," Don Robinson said. "He's not going to be here so I can talk to him."

The family was on their way back to Gary and Patricia Caldwell's Harlan County home when the crash happened.

We spoke to State Police on Wednesday. They say toxicology reports for Vanderpool are still being processed and could be back as early as the end of the week.

Funeral arrangements for Patricia and Gary Caldwell are being made Wednesday.

Don Robinson says Julia and Brent will be buried in Florida.
