In Laurel County, a father is charged with leaving his daughter in a hot car while he played video games.
Laurel County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 25-year-old Ryan Segraves after they say he left his five-year-old little girl unattended inside his car while outside temperatures reached nearly 90-degrees. She's safe now with other relatives while her father is in jail. Even the suspect's mother couldn't believe it when she heard the charges against her son.
Tammy Segraves says she was shocked when she found out sheriff's deputies had charged her for leaving her granddaughter Skylar unattended inside a hot car for at least half an hour. She says after hearing the news, she called Skylar to check on her.
"She said 'I'm fine, but it's not been a good day.'" Segraves told Skylar, "I know baby. It's not been a good day for me either."
Tammy Segraves says her son went to to what investigators describe as a gameroom where he playing video machines. Laurel County Sheriff's Deputy Gilbert Acciardo says when he went to arrest Segraves, Segraves tried to explain himself.
"Just that he was going to be in there a few minutes and wasn't going to be in there long and was on his way out conveniently at the same time we were going in to find him."
Tammy Segraves is the first to admit, leaving a child unattended in a hot car is a serious crime, that's why she has a warning for her son:
"Ryan, honey, I love you, but I'm going to kick your butt."
As for that video gameroom where Segraves was arrested, the Laurel County Sheriff's Department tells us today's incident has made them aware of possible problems that need investigating.
