LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Fayette County Superintendent Tom Shelton had to be taken to the emergency room Wednesday morning after falling ill at work.
The school spokesperson says Dr. Shelton became lightheaded and nauseous. He was taken by a colleague to the emergency room.
It happened as representatives from the state auditor's office arrived at central office Wednesday morning.
According to the District Spokeswoman, after many tests the doctors determined Shelton's sudden illness was due to an issue with his blood pressure.
They sent him home to rest just before 5:00 p.m. with medicine and instructions to do more of the things we know are good for us. He expects to return to work tomorrow.
"Thank you for the uplifting messages and well-wishes so many of you sent today," Shelton said. "High blood pressure runs in my family and I need to pay close attention to my health."
We're told he was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure because the symptoms came on so suddenly.
