Federal grant pays for light-up street signs in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- New signs are going up all around Lexington that could help drivers find their way better at night.

Lexington is in the process of installing new light-up street signs.

In all the city will put up 86 new street signs at about 33 intersections.

The border of the sign and the name of the street will light up.

"These are major intersections where congestion may be occuring at a more significant level. So, alertness is at a premium," said Lexington Mayor Jim Gray.

The Mayor says about 30 of the 86 new signs have already been installed. He says the remainder will be up and running by the end of May.

The signs were funded by a federal grant.
